Informed Financial Consent (IFC) is the provision of cost information to patients, including notification of likely out-of-pocket expenses (gaps), by all relevant service providers, preferably in writing, prior to admission to hospital or treatment.
All patients who have an out-of-pocket expense (gap) for an upcoming hospital admission, Gold Coast MedBill will directly email them an Informed Financial Consent. This consent will provide information about the patients Specialist and the estimated associated fees they are required to pay. They will be required to sign this consent and submit to Gold Coast MedBill for record keeping purposes. This consent is required to be completed prior to the patients admission to hospital.
Due to the nature of unplanned admissions (such as an emergency case) it's likely an Informed Financial Consent will not be supplied to the patient prior. In instances where this does occur and there is an out of pocket expense, an invoice will be sent to the patient post discharge.
If a patient does not have an out of pocket expense they will not receive an Informed Financial Consent.
If you are having a procedure with one of our Anaesthetists, prior to your admission to hospital you will receive an email with an Informed FinancialConsent (IFC).
Each Anaesthetist calculates their own fees independently to others and is why patients may receive different charges for different operations, or for the same operation by different anaesthetists.
You will meet your Anaesthetist in the hospital on the day of surgery. If you have any concerns or queries about your anaesthesia please contact Gold Coast MedBill & we will ensure your Anaesthetist contacts you directly to discuss your concerns prior to admission.
